Performance photographs taken at the Trianon Transatlantique,
Rouen, France, during the 1998 European tour of HHT, on November 5.
Digital pictures were taken without flash to avoid distracting the musicians
during the show. Photos by Ingrid Verhamme, webmaster.

Kaigal-ool Khovalyg singing khöömei, and playing
the doshpuluur.
Kaigal-ool performs a textless version of the "Lament
of the Igil". Download the Quicktime video file (9 Mb) on Steve's
video page.
Sayan Bapa performing on the doshpuluur, and singing in the kargyraa
style.
Tolya (Anatoli Kuular) plays the byzaanchi, a string instrument
with the bow permanently looped around the strings. Instead of pressing
down on the fretboard, Tolya pushes up against the strings.
Tolya sings in the borbangnadyr style, a type of throat-singing
that imitates the sound of rolling, flowing. He produces a harmonic melody
of just the right rhythm, pitch and timbre to meld with the dancing harmonics
produced by a rushing stream. An astonishing track of Tolya's borbangnadyr
in harmony with the flowing water is featured on the CD "Tuva:
Among the Spirits". A Quicktime video clip "Borbangnadyr"
is also available on Steve's site.
